Douglasville’s General Dental Care
Whether you’re looking for a dentist to maintain your healthy smile, want more advanced cosmetic services, or need restorative dentistry, it all begins with Dr. Jim Williams. He wants all of his patients to have lasting, life-long smiles for complete health and better function.
Comprehensive Exams
Your well-being – it’s something we never take for granted and why we emphasize the importance of your regularly scheduled exams and screenings. These dental exams and screenings allow us to look for developing signs of periodontal disease, oral cancer, TMJ, and even the earliest signs of tooth decay.
We know that when a problem is caught early, it is much easier and less expensive to treat and has much less impact on your systemic health.
And to ensure that our screenings are the most accurate available, we have invested in the latest technology such as digital x-rays and the DIAGNOdent laser caries detection tool.
Preventive Care
Who doesn’t want to prevent dental problems before they start? Prevention is at the very heart of our dental philosophy because it is not only good for your teeth and the appearance of your smile, it is good for your whole body health too. How? Using measures such as regular check-ups and cleanings with the Cavitron ultrasonic scaling system, we can help prevent everything from cavities to gum disease… and that is important when you consider that gum disease has a proven relationship to other serious health conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, hypertension, diabetes, prenatal and low birth weight babies, and even dementia. If you’re at risk for gum disease, we can prescribe PerioGard®, a prescription mouthwash that helps treat gingivitis. Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal disease is an infection in your gums caused by a buildup of plaque on your teeth and can start very quietly and without noticeable symptoms. Many patients don’t experience bleeding of the gums, the primary symptom of gum disease, during the initial stages of gingivitis. Even without bleeding or tenderness, gums can recede, leaving teeth vulnerable to decay, abscesses, and tooth loss. If we detect periodontal (gum) disease, Dr. Williams will start with a Cavitron ultrasonic scaling system cleaning, and follow up with a treatment of Arestin®, a topical antibiotic that treats gum disease directly at the source. He will also prescribe PerioGard, a gentle, prescription mouthwash, to use in the comfort of your home and effectively treat your gum disease.
